The JOY of Sacred Science

What is the Sacred Science?

In Amazonian culture, there exists a very ancient healing
tradition that, at its most basic level, utilizes a panacea of medicinal plants. This practice has been cultivated over thousands of years, evolving as various tribes lived and thrived throughout the different regions of the South American rainforest. The elders learned to use specific plants to heal all manner of illness, and through a very deep, intimate understanding of their immediate jungle surroundings, a symbiotic relationship was formed between man and nature. The tribes were healed, nourished, and guided by the plants, and in turn, these communities nurtured the forests and became keenly aware of each plant’s healing properties.

In this manner, the medicinal plants have been an ever-evolving
foundation of these cultures for millennia. This ancient tradition
works with both plants that are seen as strictly medicinal - those
that work solely on the physical level and can occasionally have
psychological benefits - as well as with those that are considered
spiritually sacred. Western medicine categorizes these plants as
“entheogenic”.

Looking for a new prescription for serious illness? Take eight intrepid patients, add a team of indigenous medicine men and shamans, and mix for 30 days in the Peruvian Amazon. Suffering from conditions ranging from Parkinson's to prostate cancer to diabetes, these patients are motivated by a commitment to heal naturally and sheer desperation to end their suffering. Immersed in nature, silence and solitude, shamanic medicine ceremonies open them to the emotional and psychological issues underlying their dis-ease. The experienced shamans mindfully harvest and prepare specific remedies for their patients, with treatments that include healing songs and spiritual counsel. Entering the heart of healing in the heart of the Amazon, we find that saving the rainforest really does mean saving ourselves.

JOY and food for the soul - Deepak Chopra Mediation

This is how I end my day and manage to sleep like a baby.

I fell upon this meditation by Deepak Chopra the other day and it is one of the best meditations I have heard in a very long time. If you do not know Deepak Chopra, I invite you to discover him.  Trust and let go, believe me it's like floating in a warm hot fragrant bath, soothing and healing voice and beautiful oriental music.  Sometimes worries and activities of the stay still echo and ring in your ears at the end of your working day. Meditation is an amazing way to start and end your day a real gift of self love.  You will feel refreshed and feed your cerebra with wonderful soothing Alpha Waves. This will rest and refresh you and I am sure most beginners will simply fall asleep, so please make sure your pijamas are on and you are under your covers before you do this. I have often fallen into a very deep sleep in the middle of this type of meditation with all the lights on and fully clothed. Relax and enjoy in the safety of your home and bed or in a quiet area where you will not be disturbed. No need to believe every word he says, simply trust and be aware of how your body is relaxing and letting go of tension. Namaste : )

The effects of JOY on your body

Emoto’s Water Experiment: The Power of Thoughts

Through the 1990's. Dr. Massaru Emoto performed a series of experiments observing the physical effect of words, prayers, music and environment on the crystaline structure of water.  Emoto hired photographers to take pictures of water after being exposed to the different variables and subsequently frozen so that they would form crystalline structures.  The results were nothing short of remarkable.

The Water in you

Considering the human body is composed of 60% water. I think we can connect the dots...

What are your thoughts? Namaste : )

JOY begins with Qi balance

"Qi", pronounced "Chee"

I am glad to share a great video by Danny Gerean, L.Ac. about emotions and their direct link to illness. Each emotion has an effect on different major organs of our body.  I believe in this 100% and so have the practitioners of Ancient Chinese Medicine after 2,500 years of evolution. I am also happy to share the concept of “Qi” with you as well. The below article was written by the University of Minnesota.  Keeping the JOY and BALANCE in your everyday life experience begins by eating well, getting a minimum of 7 hours of sleep, avoiding extremes and focusing on REAL LIFE priorities such as: Health, family, self love and belief and taking responsibility for your own state of “Happiness” or “Unhappiness”. It’s like that song by Bobby McFerrin, “Don’t Worry Be Happy” when he says, “Take your frown off of your face, don’t bring everybody down, keep a smile on your face” Have you ever heard that no one can make you happy? I have.  I believe that we are all responsible for our state of resistance in allowing the good in our lives and beings. What can make you happy right at this very moment? Think of something simple like having a glass of water, taking a deep breath, eating an apple, a piece of dark chocolate or just making yourself a hot cup of tea or taking a power nap to better continue your day’s work.  Try this great affirmation by Abraham Hicks: “I am open and receptive to receiving all that is good”. If you are having trouble letting go, just think as if today was the last day of your life. How would you like people to remember you and what would you be leaving behind?

Cultivating our own state of inner happiness starts with planting a seed in fertile soil. Is your soil fertile? Are you willing to take the time and patience to love yourself fully and to become the best “YOU” you can be by clearing all self imposed judgments, fears and doubts retained by your present self and the past experiences that influence your present actions and impact your future? Are you willing to water and grow the seed of happiness in your life garden? I once heard a beautiful analogy to life.

A wise man said, “If you plant one type of flower in your garden you will have a field, but if you plant different types of plant seeds in your garden, you will have a beautiful garden filled with different types of fragrant flowers and wonderful tasty garden vegetables.” Unknown

Internal Causes of Disease and the Seven Emotions in Chinese Medicine by Danny Gerean, L.Ac.

What is Qi? and (Other Concepts)

  • Qi is energy in the very broadest sense possible.

  • Qi is universal.

  • Qi embraces all manifestations of energy, from the most material aspects of energy (such as the earth beneath your feet, your computer, and flesh and blood) to the most immaterial aspects (light, movement, heat, nerve impulses, thought, and emotion).

Life, it is said in the Chinese medical classics, is a gathering of Qi. A healthy (and happy) human being is a dynamic but harmonious mixture of all the aspects of Qi that make up who we are.

Qi is in a state of continuous flux, transforming endlessly from one aspect of Qi into another. It is neither created nor is it ever destroyed; it simply changes in its manifestation.

In order to talk about the relationships between the various aspects and manifestations of Qi within a given context, Chinese philosophy employs the concept of yin and yang.

What are yin and yang?

In the Chinese perspective, given the importance of "taking everything as a whole," all things are relative. A thing can be understood only in relation to something else. This is the essential idea behind the use of the terms yin and yang.

Yin and yang are terms used to describe relative opposite qualities or manifestations of Qi. If yin is form, then yang is function. If yin is material, then yang is immaterial.

  • Yin refers to aspects or manifestations of Qi that are relatively material, substantial, condensing, solid, heavy, descending, cold, moist, cooling, dark, passive and quiescent.

  • Yang refers to aspects or manifestations of Qi that are relatively immaterial, amorphous, expanding, hollow, light, ascending, hot, dry, warming, bright, aggressive, and active.

What is their relationship?

Everything that is yin contains some element of yang, and everything that is yang contains some element of yin. There is nothing so solid or material (yin) that does not contain some energetic vibration (yang), and nothing so kinetic or immaterial (yang) that does not also contain some material substance (yin). Even light, so Einstein tells us, has mass.

Yin and yang are continuously changing; they constantly adjust to one another, and are endlessly transforming one into the other in an eternal dance of becoming. This wonderful concept of change is beautifully illustrated in the simple image of the "yin-yang symbol."

When all of the yin and yang aspects of Qi are in harmony with one another, there is health, wellbeing and contentment. When yin and yang are in disharmony, when there is too much or too little of one aspect of Qi relative to another, then there is illness, pain and suffering.

After 2,500 years of evolution, TCM has become a very rich and sophisticated system of rational medicine with a great diversity of theories and applications. But, in its essence, it seeks to understand and facilitate harmony in human life.

It is based on a very simple principle: any system that is in harmony tends towards health, wellbeing, and sustainability. A system that is in disharmony tends towards illness, disease, suffering, and collapse.

What is a system in TCM?

A system is comprised of everything that creates and sustains it. Everything is interconnected and interdependent. If all of the parts of a system are in harmony with one another, then the whole system is in harmony. Disturb one thing and you create a disturbance that ripples through the whole system.

This principle applies to any and all systems. For example, it applies as equally to a human being as it does to a family, community, or the environment. So we must take care to consider our actions and to take things as a whole.

Start your day clear, cleansed and focused with the help of the following DAILY meditations

To complete my daily buddhist practice of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo, I have incorporated the following two daily meditations by Doreen Virtue, Master of Psychology and Dr. Wayne Dyer for the past 3 months.  To tell you the truth I thought they were a little strange at first, but being inquisitive by nature and open minded, I just kept listening and following their meditations and online conferences.  I have been following these two amazing teachers, guides and wisdom keepers for the past three years.  Today I owe them a great debt of gratitude for their healing teachings and writings.  Their teachings have brought great JOY into my life and help me to keep focus, clarity and peace in my every day life. I have decided to share these two meditations with you and trust that you will enjoy and be uplifted by them. Namaste

Peace Proposal 2015 by Dr. Daisaku Ikeda, Nobel Peace Prize Nominee

Dr. Ikeda, my mentor and President of SGI International has been an advocate for world peace since the age of 19. He has been nominated by the United Nations to receive the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize. It is my pleasure to share the 2015 Peace Proposal available online. Please do not hesitate to share this information and great news with your family and friends and those of need of inner peace and healing. Namaste

SYNOPSIS

On the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the establishment of the Soka Gakkai International (SGI), I would like to offer some thoughts on ways to generate greater solidarity among the people of the world for peace and humane values and for the elimination of needless suffering from the Earth.

The United Nations is working toward a new set of goals to follow the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and, last July, the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) released a proposal that expresses a commitment to inclusiveness, the determination to protect the dignity of all people without exception.

I would like to discuss three priority themes for promoting the achievement of these goals and, on a broader scale, accelerating efforts to eliminate misery from the face of the planet. This was the repeated desire of my mentor, Josei Toda, and remains the inspiration behind the activities of SGI members around the world.

The first is the "rehumanization of politics and economics" making their prime motivation the alleviation of the suffering of individuals. The most important driving force for this is the solidarity of ordinary citizens who have raised their voices based on an unyielding commitment to our collective future.

The second is what I call "a chain reaction of empowerment," encapsulated in the idea that a great revolution of character in just a single individual can help achieve a change in the destiny of an entire society and make possible a change in the destiny of all humankind.

The third theme is the expansion of friendship across differences in order to build a world of coexistence. Expanding human solidarity based on a shared concern for the threats faced by all of us holds the key to the alleviation of human suffering. The one thing any of us can do at any time to contribute to building that solidarity is to generate a broader network of friendship through dialogue.

Frameworks for shared action

I believe there should be two prerequisites for the resolution of global problems at the heart of the creative evolution of the UN as it marks its seventieth anniversary this year: the participation of all states and the promotion of collaboration between the UN and civil society.

I would like to make specific proposals in the following three fields in which I think there is urgent need for shared action in order to eliminate the word misery from the human lexicon.

The healing, joy and life giving practice of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo

I have been practicing Buddhism for 9 years now. Buddhism is not a religion, but a philosophy and lifestyle transmitting Peace Culture Education. Founded in 1930, SGI International is a non-profit organization which has built Soka Universities and World Peace Centers all around the world for 85 years now. I am very grateful for this practice; it’s teachings and the Words of Wisdom my mentor and the president of the Soka Gakkai International, Daisaku Ikeda. Dr. Ikeda has dedicated his life’s work to Kosen Rufu, the great mission of peace on earth and the happiness of all living being. The teachings and values of Nichiren Daishonin Buddhism have changed and healed my life. It is my great pleasure to share this practice with you in the hopes that it can help you and yours in your everyday. Dr. Daisaku Ikeda has been nominated for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize, as confirmed by a Nobel Peace Laureate.   Dr. Ikeda is also an honorary member of the Club de Rome he has received his 300th academic honor. Kosen Rufu, the great mission of peace and happiness for all living beings

My healing journey began in 2006 while I was at a friend's house.  She was preparing for her evening Gongyo and asked me if I would like to join her. I said yes and I was introduced to the practice of Nam Myoho Renge Kyo also known as Nichiren Buddism. My friend later invited me to a district meeting (local neighborhood meetings in small groups and monthly World Peace Gongyo in a larger group at Montreal S.G.I. Center). I really enjoyed the meetings and finding out more about the Soka Gakkai International Association of Canada.  I have been practicing Buddhism for 9 years now. Buddhism is not a religion, but a daily practice and life philosophy, a lifestyle transmitting Peace Culture Education. Founded in 1930, SGI International is a non-profit organization which has built Soka Universities and World Peace Centers all over the world for 85 years now. I am very grateful for the Words of Wisdom by our mentor, Daisaku Ikeda, for it has changed my life. Buddhists are said to be Masters at the Art of Living. I am grateful for every breath I take and my life is renewed and refreshed each new day thanks to this wonderful healing practice and I will forever be grateful to the founders of the Soka Gakkai International. Namaste
